Registration Opens June 4 for Toronto Summer Swim and Skate Programs and Afterschool Recreation Care

Registration for summer City of Toronto community recreation programs including summer swim and skate programs, and afterschool recreation care (ARC) for the coming school year (starting in September), will begin at 7 a.m. on June 4  across the city – the Etobicoke/York, Scarborough, North York and Toronto/East York recreation districts.

These high-quality, affordable recreation programs fill up quickly, so the public is advised to register starting at 7 a.m. to avoid disappointment. Registering online is the quickest and easiest way to sign up for programs. The number of registrations completed online continues to increase each year and additional capacity has been added to the online registration system. On average, 70 per cent of the daily total of registrations can now be processed in the first hour of each registration day.

The City of Toronto is committed to increasing access to recreational activities by offering yearly credits, free programs and older adult discounts.

Summer swim and skate programs
Before registering for summer swim and skate programs, residents should be aware of the registration date, how to register and payment options. Those who want to register for programs will require a family number and a client number for each member of their family. Before registration day, call 416-338-4386 or speak with staff at a City community centre to get those numbers. More information about how to register is available at

Registration is ongoing for summer camps and general programs. Residents can explore recreation program options online at or by picking up a FUN Guide at City Hall, civic centres, community centres and libraries.

Afterschool Recreation Care programs
Registration for Afterschool Recreation Care (ARC) programs for the upcoming school year (September 2016 to June 2017) begins Saturday, June 4 at 7 a.m. Residents can register for ARC online, by phone or in person, and can obtain more information about ARC programs and registration at

Yearly credit (Welcome Policy)
The City of Toronto offers a yearly credit called the Welcome Policy for residents with low incomes that can be used to register for City recreation programs. Those receiving social assistance (Ontario Works) and living in Toronto are pre-approved to receive this credit, and should speak to their caseworker. More information about the yearly credit is available at

Free programs
Many community centres offer free recreation programs including leisure swimming and skating, and drop-in programs for children, youth and older adults. More information about free and low-cost programming options is available at

Older adult discounts
Torontonians age 60 and older who register for adult programs receive a 50 per cent discount on programming.

The City of Toronto has improved its registration process by adding a fast and easy way to access receipts. Participants can now review and print their own receipts. More information can be found on the City's website at
