The Mount Pleasant Cemetery operators have informed us that they have made the difficult decision to close the gates of Prospect Cemetery to the public. Prospect Cemetery has experienced increased public use since the COVID-19 crisis began and physical distancing was introduced. They have made every effort to inform the public who use their cemeteries as a place for passive recreational purposes that we all bear an obligation to adhere to the safe physical distancing directives when walking through the cemeteries. Unfortunately, not everyone is exercising those important cautions. This was a difficult decision for the operator, knowing that this impacts many of the rights holders who still visit our cemeteries frequently to grieve and tend to their loved one’s graves, as well as those thoughtful citizens who are diligent about their physical distancing practices.
