As many of you are aware, I have been pursuing multiple opportunities to ensure a community hub is created on the Bloor-Dufferin Toronto District School Board (TDSB) lands since it was first put up for sale in 2013. Following a deferral of the sale of the land in April 2015 by the TDSB (the result of a motion by Trustee Stiles), I moved a motion at City Council a year ago today which directed City staff to start developing a community hub proposal in conjunction with City Divisions, the TDSB and the Toronto Lands Corporation (TLC).
Last fall, City Council unanimously approved a concept for a community hub on the site and authorized City staff to enter into formal discussions on behalf of the City with the TLC, TDSB, and the Province of Ontario – a momentous milestone to say the least.
This inter-governmental working group led by Premier Kathleen Wynne's Advisor on Community Hubs, Karen Pitre has been working hard to shape the future of this important site. They have worked collaboratively and have made progress since last fall. Over the course of their work they have been in contact with Trustee Stiles, MPP Martins, and myself, updating us on their progress and seeking feedback.
I am now pleased to let you know of the next phase of this process – a community meeting co-hosted by the City of Toronto, TDSB, TLC, and the Province. At this meeting, the working group and your elected representatives will be sharing information and seeking your feedback. You can find out more in the meeting notice listed below.
