Seeking a Flexible Approach to Inclusionary Zoning

As the Chair of Toronto's Affordable Housing Committee, I led the City's submission to the Province of Ontario's recently introduced Promoting Affordable Housing Act, 2016. This provincial legislation seeks to provide municipalities with the tools to leverage new affordable housing units from ongoing private sector construction activity. The City's response advocates for a flexible approach which allows municipalities to responds to the local needs and dynamics of the housing market. As the Chair of Toronto's Affordable Housing Committee and the lead on the City's response to the Act, I look forward to working with our provincial partners, residents, & housing stakeholders to develop legislation that addresses the needs of our municipalities and encourages the creation of new affordable housing.
